Quote of the Day
The importance of freedom . . . does not depend on the elevated character of the activities it makes possible. Freedom of action, even in humble things, is as important as freedom of thought.F.A. Hayek, The Constitution of Liberty

Things I would have written long blog posts about if they had happened two years ago:
Dan Markel discusses the latest controversy over a Yale Law Journal publication.
David Cole bans laptops in class. Bill Henderson, Peter Lattman, Rick Garnett, and Jonathan Adler discuss. I stick by my earlier posts on the subject (here and here). Two of my professors this semester forbid internet use, but laptops themselves are still permitted in one of those classes-- and thank goodness. I take notes by updating, annotating, and revising an outline used by a friend the year before, and that would be a nightmare to do longhand.
Joshua Bell performs as a subway busker. Few notice.
