Quote of the Day

Justice Scalia, speaking at Harvard:

I even take the position that sexual orgies eliminate social tensions and ought to be encouraged,

(Via Atrios via De Novo)

UPDATE: Alas, he has been misquoted.

From what I can tell, this line is still legit, though:
An audience member later rose to ask Scalia “whether you have any gay friends, and—if not—whether you’d like to be my friend.”

Debate

Professor Leiter has an uncharacteristically insightful point, that "debate" is an odd term for what will take place this evening between the candidates:

(A)ccording to the rules:

(1) the candidates can't ask questions of each other,

and

(2) the moderators can't ask follow-up questions.

Koffee

One of the many insightful lines from Guys and Dolls is the Reverend Abernathy's exclamation: "Mmm. Coffee is so good, I don't know why it's not a sin!"

The insight here applies to theology and to vice law, but also simply to coffee. Now that my coffee maker and grinder has finally arrived, I am able to brew the real thing in my own apartment. The insight is how much better freshly-ground-and-brewed coffee is than what passes for coffee in the law school dining hall (an insight that co-Crescatter Amanda blogged nearly nine months ago).

Is it too late to make a New Year's resolution to quit drinking bad coffee?
