Sour Sundays
Bourbon whiskey with just an ice cube or two is one of the many cheap pleasures of life. But as readers as regular readers (and critics) know, I'm not averse to other ways of drinking one's whiskey. One such is the Manhattan. But another, worth keeping in mind, the Whiskey Sour:
Get a cocktail shaker.
Add ice cubes.
One part fresh-squeezed (this is crucial) lemon juice.
Three parts bourbon. (No need to splurge here), but too-strong stuff is better than too-weak.
one 1/4 part sugar (there are 16 tablespoons to the cup, etc.)
Shake. Vigorously.
(Incidentally, this can be garnished with a marashino cherry and served in a rocks glass or a wine glass; when in doubt, err on the side of less ice and more shaking.)
UPDATE: All right, all right, I stand chastened by the good men at Oxblog. A Sour is a pleasant fling, but nothing to abandon one's long relationships for.

Lazy Link Day
Oh, yes, it's that kind of blogging day:
Miss Manners, on preserving the institution of marriage (also, how to respond to being told that one's girlfriend is beautiful).
Micha Ghertner, on ethically subjective Libertarianism
Matthew Yglesias and Unlearned Hand on the evils of Sandra Day O'Connor. (Special treat: don't miss Jacob Levy making fun of Yglesias in the comments section).
The grad. students are standing in for Professor Jim Leitzel on Vice Squad.
